Limit Holdem vs. Texas No Limit Holdem

Because most people fall under the impression that Limit Holdem and No Limit are basically the same, they try to play them the same way, and often find out that it is virtually impossible to do. Limit Holdem players find themselves struggling with No Limit and vice versa. The key is knowing the differences between the two.

Th only difference between the two Texas Holdem games is the betting structure; in Limit Holdem the amount you can wager are restricted, and in No Limit there is none. However, this makes a world of difference.

First, in No Limit, players tend to be more selective with the hands that they play, because once they get the big hands, they can go all in. In Limit Holdem players tend to play with more hands. Why? Because the restricted betting means that regardless of the hand that you are holding at the start, players will call.

Because of this, a lot of the time the players will pay to see the flop, and the hands that you get there will change the value of your starting Poker hands. In No Limit one is usually tight and aggressive but in Limit the players are quite loose.

The fact that one cannot raise all in in Limit Holdem means players handle situations differently. For instance, in No Limit Holdem, one can put a stop to all the chasers by simply making a big raise. This will make it very expensive to see the cards. In Limit Holdem, such a Poker strategy is not possible.

Instead one should jam the pots whenever he has a decent hand. If you have a reputation for raising, this will help as people will call and make the pot more expensive, making it difficult for chasers to make the draw.

Differences between the Poker games include bluffing, a strategy that is more effective in the latter; the hand values also differ for each game, with middle and pocket pairs more valuable in No Limit and paint cards in Limit Holdem.

Limit Holdem and No Limit each have their own characteristics and strategies. Deciding which is best for you simply means that you should take the time to play both.

If you are more comfortable with a fixed betting structure then Limit Holdem is the one for you. If you prefer the opposite, wherein you can go all in, then No Limit should be something you should try.

Find which one you are more comfortable, and start playing. Which ever you choose, by devoting your time to it, you will soon be winning pots.
