To play poker, we need a regular deck with 52 poker cards. There are varying combinations to play poker, and wining cards are judged from highest to lowest this way: an ace, a king, a queen, and then a jack. These are "face" cards, except the ace. Then there are the number cards: from 10 down to 2. Ace cards are highest. They beat kings. Kings beat queens. Queens beat jacks. Jacks beat tens, and so on. And of course, these cards come in four different suits or kinds: spade, clover (or flower), diamond, and heart.
To play poker, one is dealt or given five cards by the dealer. The main thing here is to come up with the highest hand combination. From the cards in hand, see what of the following combinations is possible to play poker right and win. Here are the first 4 highest:
A Royal Flush is the highest card combination. It beats everything else. To play poker with this combination, cards must have a 10, a jack, a queen, a king and an ace. They must have the same suit.
A Straight Flush is the second highest but it can be beaten by a royal flush. To play poker with this combination, cards must have five cards with successive numbers. They must have the same suit. If two players have the same combination, then the combination (or hand) with the highest value wins.
Four of a kind is the third highest. It loses to a royal and straight flush. It means that in hand are four cards with the same numbers but different suits plus a random card of any kind. Again, in case of a tie, the combination or hand with the highest card value wins.
A Full House is the fourth highest combination. The first three combinations each easily beat this one. A full house is composed of five cards, three of which have the same numbers (different suits), and the two others also have the same numbers (also different suits). The tie breaker here is judged by who has the highest three of a kind. A hand with three aces beats other full houses, and so on.
